Nadolig Llawen! (2019)

The holidays have come and gone and we are now setting foot into 2020. Last year, we spent the holidays with friends and while it was lovely, I’m equally happy to say it was just us this Christmas.

This year was one of the first years I helped with the preperation of Christmas morning. Mum and I got up at 7am and lit the fire straight away. After that we prepared the turkey and put it in the oven, making sure to take the giblets out. We tidied up a bit more before waking my brother up. He woke up easily and was instantly pumped about opening presents. When he was awake properly, we all got breakfast and a cup of tea and put Christmas music on in the background.

Then we sat down on the living room floor and started opening the gifts mum had prepared for us. We spent the time opening them laughing and talking. Both Jake and I got a beautiful brand new laptop each. Jake got some gear to go along with his love for gaming, a controller, a new headset and a mouse. I got an amazing drawing pad, which I absoloutely adore. I’ve drawn a few pieces since christmas and my skills are improving rapidly! Using it feels much better than I anticipated it would.

I also got four books and two dvds. Three of the books were Disney’s Twisted Tales from varying authors. I’ve already read one of them. I loved it and I’m thoroughly excited to finish the next one. The other book was a complete set of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. I read a few pages on Christmas morning but I’m hoping to save that one for last as it’s the biggest of the four books. I am eager to read it though.

The two dvds were Disney’s Brave and Pride; two of my favourites. I also got a ball of really colourful wool to knit with. I’m planning on turning it into a really long scarf. There was a pack of cards, which were Harry Potter themed, an absoloutely amazing flag, a soldering kit, and a rubber chicken for a bit of comedy. I got a mug, some red lipstick and some chocolates, which I mostly ate while opening presents.

Once all presents were open, we tidied up all the stray paper and checked the food. We spent most of the day getting our laptops prepared, exploring them and installing the necessary things we needed or wanted. Jake and I immediately took to them. He played various games for most of the day and I drew with my new art pad for a good chunk of the day too. Inbetween relaxing, we kept an eye on food and eventually, after quite a lot of preperation, it was ready.

We sat down to eat together and it was delicious. It was a lot of food however so I didn’t manage to eat it all, but as always, it was amazing. We sat down to watch a bunch of Christmas movies and spent the rest of the day relaxing in each other’s company.

We aren’t a religious family, but Christmas is always something we’ve celebrated together happily. That time of year is always special for us and it has long been one of my favourite times of the year. Not just because of gift giving, but because of the pure love every year. It’s a time of love and celebration; a time of beauty and family.

Maybe next year we’ll spend the holidays with more close friends, but this year I’m glad it was just us.
