My First Animation!

I love animation, and I have always wanted to give it a try. It has always been a long time goal of mine to conquer it and have it as a skill. So, this past week or so I have been studying it as much as I could. I’ve had a few courses on standby ready for when I had proper animation software on my laptop.

On Monday I took my computer to our favourite local computer shop and had Adobe Animate put onto my laptop. When I got my laptop back yesterday, I spent the rest of the day exploring the software. It has been a steep learning curve already and there’s obviously a lot more to learn. I did however manage to create my first ever animation on the first day!

I know that there are a few things I could do to make it move more smoothly. While I keep beating myself up for it being simple, I know that more complicated and fluid animations will come with time and practice. I am incredibly proud of it and I can’t wait to keep practising.

I struggled with it at the beginning, because everything seemed so obscure. It was all so new that I felt a bit swamped at first (new software is always like this). However I watched a couple of YouTube videos and that helped to clear up a few questions I had. After that I followed a few tutorials and that helped me even further. After I finished with the tutorials, I had a proper try on my own.

I think it is safe to say that it was much more difficult than I expected. It was quite tedious and there is still a lot for me to learn. Again, the confidence and experience I need shall come with practice. I love animation and I follow quite a few animators on my social media. A long term goal of mine is to have my art as part of an indie game. Learning how to animate is fundamental to that being a success.
