A World in my Art – Creating [REDACTED]

I am a nerd. A geek. A Sci-Fi and Fantasy fanatic, if you will. It’s a pretty easy thing to recognise. Especially to other like-minded people; it’s like we can sniff each other out.

For a while now, I have been creating a world using my art. The artworks in my world-building collection (currently my largest series), are all intertwined and connected in ways that can be found in the works itself. It is a world filled with magic, colour, and mystery, with creatures of all kinds populating it. Some of them are even recurring, and can be spotted in other pieces!

As of writing this blog, my world (and by extension, the series), doesn’t have an official name yet. When it does, all places that say [REDACTED], will be replaced. Until then, all references to my world can feel like a top secret document, or something (again, I am a nerd).

I have always world-built in various ways, as I’ve grown up. I used to write stories, and create entire universes in my head. I had the lore of what felt like hundreds of worlds coming out of my ears, and I’d create original characters (OCs), every opportunity I got. It was only recently that I got recommended the idea to use my art to do the same thing.

My art means the world to me, and I throw everything I am into it. It’s a huge part of me. So, by that logic, if I’m nerdy, why shouldn’t my art be?

The World Itself – An Introduction

On a planet somewhere, in an alternate reality to ours, there is a place called [REDACTED], where everything is almost identical to the world we know and tolerate now. A world used to magic and creatures that would be considered abnormal in our reality.

Like our world, humans used to be the dominant species. It has been, however, several millennia since the all of the humans got wiped out. Due to their own foolishness or negligence, or a war that has long been forgotten, the reason has been lost to time. They are, though, thought to be extinct, or at the very least, they are considered mythical.

What has blossomed since, is a world full of mystery, magic, and occasionally mayhem. The most common species now being satyrs (half-goat) and fauns (half-deer), with several other species making appearances. Elves, giants, centaurs, trolls, orcs, faeries, Gods, and more.

The world is large, and it is purely at the mercy of my imagination. I have lore swimming around my head so ferociously, about so many different features, that if I start reeling it off in this post, I’m not sure that I’d be able to stop. The plan is to use this category (world-building), to write down all the information I have crowding my brain.

When it comes to stories/worlds, I tend to gravitate towards those that have darker themes. I haven’t thought of very many ways for it to be dark/mature in theme yet, but I would think that it is inevitable.

I’m also going to be creating ‘character sheets’ of the characters and species I create and involve in this world, similar to how various species of insects and plants would be shown off scientifically in the Victorian era. I’m quite excited about that idea.

In case you are reading this through the ‘blog’ part of my page, the world-building tab in the menu has it all; the character/species sheets for quick access of information, the world information (blog category), for deeper delving into this world’s lore, and the artwork itself which connects everything together.

I will add a small disclaimer; This world is a work in progress, and while I have heaps of ideas, they aren’t all fully formed. For this reason, expect blogs and character sheets on the topic (world-building), to change and adapt as time goes on.

I am so very excited to begin sharing this world I’m creating. I love my art so very much, so the ability to add my nerdiness to it, is incredible, and invigorating.

Watch this space!
