I am so excited to write this blog, because I have done my first piece of artwork for a music track/single! The single is called Awake by Emmetelle and I am so pleased with its outcome.
While this is the first piece of artwork I have produced for music, I have been in contact with a few artists in North Wales and I’m really excited to work on more in the future. It was a really great way for me to practice and adapt my skills to cater to what Emmetelle needed.
To make my work effective, I need to know what the artist is looking to convey with their music. Through the stages of creating the artwork, I regularly showed the stages of progress in my designs to Emmetelle to ensure I was working in the right direction.
I was asked for an early morning scene that could hopefully capture what the song feels like. The artwork depicts the sun rising and the person in the centre with their arms out wide in anicipation of what the day could bring. I tried to use light colours, while still aiming to be eye-catching. I have had feedback from people hearing the music for the first time to say that the drawing I did matched what they felt when they listened to it.
This is one of the first times I’ve attempted to draw clouds, as I’m not too confident with them at all. I am quite pleased with the final result. I don’t think the art would have quite the same impact without them, however.
The single itself is a beautiful ambient chillout track that perfectly depicts the feeling of waking up early in the morning, ready to start the day and sensing that anything is possible going forward. Through a beautiful melody and a gorgeous soundscape, the track makes me feel like you can take on the day unencumbered.
Surprisingly this is Emmetelle’s first proper attempt at creating her own music, despite being a prolific drummer and putting together many DJ mixes in the past. It’s impressive, and I’m really looking forward to seeing her next compositions. I hope that I can create more art for her music as time goes on. Maybe one day, I’ll be doing the art for her album instead.
