Being an artist can be frustrating. It’s a simple truth that we are all acutely aware of. Being a beginner at anything can be daunting, but being a beginner at something you truly love to do (whatever that is), can be disheartening. Looking at the piece you were excited to be proud of, only to realise it doesn’t meet the expectations you set for yourself. All artists have gone through this. Me included.
Looking at references for art is normal, and more artists are guilty of it than you might think. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and doesn’t make you any less of an artist. Every professional was once a beginner. However, some sites and apps charge a lot of money exploiting an artists’ need for decent references.
This page then, is filled (or will be) with images you can use as references to practice your craft. Whether your poison is people, or landscapes.
Everything on this page is free! All I ask is that if you trace any image, to kindly give me credit.
